Armadillo Central is delighted to join forces with artist Merlyn Chesterman in donating 10% of profits from sales of her Elm Sky woodcut print to an animal welfare charity in Japan.
Merlyn prints much of her work on fine Japanese papers and since our first discussions about representing her took place around the time of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, this led to a shared desire to help with the relief effort. Merlyn wanted to acknowledge the devastation faced by animals following this terrible natural disaster. After searching the web we found ARK, an internationally registered charity set up by British teacher Elizabeth Oliver in 1990.
Although the Tohoku disaster was some months ago, ARK continues to help animals and their owners in the affected areas. The suffering has by no means abated over time - it has merely changed shape. Find out more by visiting the charity's website, listed on our Links page.
You can support ARK's work by buying a copy of Elm Sky by Merlyn Chesterman, individually hand-printed by Merlyn in an open edition. Find out more about Merlyn Chesterman and her work by visiting her artist's profile page.
