Merlyn Chesterman on her monoprint, After Munakata: "Shiko Munakata (1903-1975) was an inspirational Japanese woodblock printmaker, the Picasso of Japanese contemporary printmaking. I ran a course with a colleague (Rod Nelson) called After Munakata, at West Dean college, Chichester, and this was the print I made before teaching the course, to get a feel for what I was going to teach. Munakata worked mostly in black and white, and often hand-coloured his prints from behind, on the back of the paper. The colour radiates through in a marvellous way." Merlyn Chesterman's After Munakata measures 300 mm high x 270 mm wide. This original woodcut on lime is individually hand-printed by the artist in an open edition. Prints are on Okawara paper with water colour, using oil-based water washable relief printing ink. Price: *please check current exchange rates £360/*$571.52/*€436.47.
