Percy’s Wing Feather by Jennifer Copley-May, original watercolour & Caran d’Ache pencils on acid free paper, 120x160mm
Percy was a much-treasured macaw. He seemed not to like the human female very much, but loved the males in the family.*
He roamed free much of the time, and would escape to a nearby eucalyptus tree (not easily persuaded back home), or roam the grass in the garden. He was particularly fond of chasing painted red toe nails in the summer. Did they look like red berries to him?
*Determining whether a parrot is in fact a male or female bird is very tricky and as such, he might well have been a she, making not a blind bit of difference to how we all felt about her or him.
